How It Started

SignSafe Tech was born out of a simple observation: the signs at our local parks, pools, and public spaces only spoke one language. In a community as diverse as Santa Cruz — and really, as diverse as any community in the United States — that felt like a missed opportunity. People were visiting these shared spaces every day, but too many of them couldn't read the rules, the safety information, or the stories behind the places they were enjoying.

We knew there had to be a better way. Not an app that required downloads and logins, not a clunky kiosk, but something as simple as pointing a phone camera at a QR code. That idea became the foundation of SignSafe Tech — a platform that turns any physical sign into an instant, multilingual, accessible experience.

What started as a conversation between three friends who love parks and technology has grown into a patent-pending platform serving public spaces with translation in 240+ languages, text-to-speech accessibility, safety reporting, and real-time analytics. We're proud of what we've built, and we're just getting started.

Founder & Head of Personnel

Matthew has 12 years of dedicated experience in park maintenance with Santa Cruz County Parks. Driven by a passion for parks and open spaces, he is committed to creating meaningful connections between people and the natural world. Outside of work, Matthew enjoys spending quality time outdoors with his young family and is an avid sports enthusiast.

Matthew has a passion for tech and a keen eye for automation. He holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and has 6 years of industry experience testing and developing web applications. Matthew enjoys spending time with his two dogs Bronson and Penelope and is a sucker for a good cup of coffee.
